Juvenile Barred Owls in the Oaks

 We haven't seen the Owlets as often now.  They are still in the neighborhood but are learning to hunt rather than just hanging out entertaining the humans who live here too.  Here are a few photos in the oaks.

Barred Owls Too Big for the Nest 7/7

I was surprised to follow the juvenile Barred Owls to their nest or  a squirrels nest they thought they would try for size.  Well, they didn't all fit in the nest at once. 

Barred Owls in the Neighborhood 6/23/22

 On June 24th we spotted the juvenile Barred Owls at sunset, the first of the summer. Their high pitch squeal or hiss  is a welcomed sound in Oakwood during June and July.  They don't appear to be afraid of us. They have probably been watching us from above.  I was lucky that my camera had an affective flash.

Our neighbors and friends feel privileged to host Barred Owls from year to year. Love their calls.

It was a miracle that they were all looking at us for a few seconds, but it didn't  last long.
