Tricolored Heron on South Padre Island

These photos of the Tricolored Herons  were taken in January and February on South Padre Island.  They are the least common egret or heron in the United Stated. In the past years, they were named Louisiana Heron.  These herons breed in  the Rio Grande Valley and along the southern eastern coast to Maryland. After looking at the photos, the Tricolored Herons are very camouflaged in the water, not for their enemies but for their prey.
