Let the Birding Begin in RGV 1/3/19

We arrived in Alamo on New Years Day. What a breeze driving thru San Antonio earlier in the day.  Thanks to Brian Path we started birding with a Birding Trip by Estero Llano State Park to Boca Chica.  The Aplomato Falcon was the target bird and we hit the bull's eye.  It was rare in South Texas but with a re-establishing program they are once again breeding in here.

We also checked out the flats for shore birds.  There were hundreds of egrets in the distance but only with a scope could you identify them.  The Curlew was close to the van. Next stop was to Olievera Park to see the parrots at sunset.  But since it was so close to New Years Eve fireworks the parrots seemed to be spooked and circled but only a few roosted there for the night.  The sunset was nice and it was fun to be with the group of birders.
